#20 Answer: Wavelets and edge detection (WD 6.12 #17)

Here are a few references on edge detection with wavelets:

S. Mallat and S. Zhong, Characterization of signals from multiscale edges,
IEEETPAMI, 14(7), p. 710-732, 1992.

S. Mallat and W.L. Hwang, Singularity detection and processing with wavelets,
IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 38, p. 617-643, 1992.

The transform described in these papers is applied to several problems
(e.g. leather inspection). You'll find some refs if you browse through
some proceedings (ICIAP97 - ICIP97). Another ref is:

T. Aydin and Y. Yemez and E. Anarim and B. Sankur, "Multidirectional and
Multiscale Edge Detection via M-Band Wavelet Transform, IEEETIP, 5(9), p.
1370-1377, 1996

If you're working on edge detection, then you really should read about the
Canny edge detector:

J. Canny, A Computational Approach to Edge Detection, IEEETPAMI, 8(6), p.
679-698, 1986

Hope this helps,
