#17 Job: Research Scientist at Mathsoft, Seattle, WA


Looking for a person with wavelets expertise for a Research Scientist
position at the Research Group of MathSoft, Inc. in Seattle, WA. The
person will be responsible for maintaining and developing the current
and new releases of the S+WAVELETS and MathCad Wavelets products. In
that role, he/she will not only guide the implementation of
state-of-the-art wavelet algorithms, but will also be responsible for
the software engineering aspects of the product. In addition, the
person will further strengthen the research program at MathSoft by
defining new research directions and developing new product ideas.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in various aspects of wavelets
(from theory to practical implementations) with a Ph.D. in Statistics,
Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field and a minimum of
two years of industry experience. He/she will be knowledgeable of the
state-of-art in wavelets. He/she will also be an experienced
programmer/software engineer with fluency in the C-language;
additional experience with C++ or Java are desirable. In addition,
he/she will have strong communication skills including the ability to
write proposals, make technical presentations, and write technical
reports. He/she will be a team player and will have good
inter-personal skills.

The research group at MathSoft is a strong dynamic group comprising of
experts in wavelets, image processing and analysis, signal processing,
and statistics. A variety of projects are underway here ranging from
commercial and custom software development to research in wavelets,
image segmentation, query-by-image content, image compression, and
target detection for applications in medical imaging, document
imaging, tactical imaging, and remote sensing.
