#13 Meeting: Royal Society London Feb 1999

Wavelets: the key to intermittent information

Royal Society, London, 24 and 25 February 1999

This Royal Society Discussion Meeting will survey the application and
potential of wavelet methods in a very diverse range of fields,
drawing connections with physical systems, turbulence, statistics,
mechanical engineering, neural networks, physiology, vision
engineering, economics, signal processing, astronomy and other areas.
It is expected that the speakers will be Alain Arneodo, Emmanuel
Candes & David Donoho, Marie Farge, David Field, Alex Grossman, Iain
Johnstone, Nick Kingsbury, David Newland, Ue-Li Pen, James Ramsey,
Bernard Silverman, Wim Sweldens & Ingrid Daubechies, Christos
Vassilicos, and Martin Vetterli.

In addition there will be contributed poster sessions organised by
Irene Moroz and Guy Nason, and a number of public panel discussions
involving the main speakers and other active researchers. A call for
submission of posters will be made later in 1998.

The meeting is intended both to be a showcase to a general scientific
audience of the scope of wavelet methods, and to provide stimulus and
direction to future research. It should be of interest to
non-specialists and specialists alike.

The meeting will take place at the Royal Society in London. There is
no registration fee, but you are asked to register in advance of the
meeting. Registration details will be available later in 1998 from

Please note the dates for your diaries!

Bernard Silverman for the organizing committee (himself, Ingrid
Daubechies, Julian Hunt and Christos Vassilicos) 1 May 1998
