#10 CFP: Problem section of Constructive Approximation

Call for contributions to the

Dear colleagues and friends,

I recently became involved in the editing of the problem section in the
journal "Constructive Approximation". The goal of this section is to
provide with some outstanding problems in approximation theory and
related topics (e.g. harmonic analysis, numerical analysis). We
believe that simply stating such problems can have a very stimulative
effect on young researchers and PhD students.

A contribution should be at most of 4 pages, and should typically include
a description of the problem and its motivation, as well as a brief
survey of what is known about it. The refereing process goes directly
through the four members of the editorial board of CA involved in the
problem section: Peter Borwein, Vilmos Totik, Ingrid Daubechies and
myself. In particular, problems can be submitted via email to my
address (

The section exists since 1995, but so far not so many problems have been
submitted in area such as Spline, Finite Elements and Wavelet methods
in approximation, as well as in Applied Harmonic Analysis. I therefore
would like to encourage submission in these area. Of course, not all
problems are of equal interest and we should definitely look for those
which are the most relevant and challenging both for their theoretical
and applicative interest.

Best regards,

Albert Cohen
