#24 Question: Wavelets and Telecomm Engineering

Note from the editor: This question is repeated because last issue

Dear colleagues,

Since I first heard about wavelets last winter, I have been
trying hard to get familiar with the concept, then try to figure out
what the applications could be.To give an idea, I coded a "crude"
Daubechies 4 fwd and inv xform in my home computer that read "WAV"
files 8 bits PCM @ 11Khz sampling, and performed compression via
thresholding and produced reconstructed pseudo WAV output file to be
used for comparison. A real crude program that nevertherless measured
the SNR of the reconstructed inverse as well as the compression ratio.

Next item I want get acquinted with is wavelet packets, withpratical
"demos" on voice processing. The elusive point that I want to make
clear is that I am notparticulary interested in either Hilbert or
Besov spaces. Sometimes I wonder if there are readers as myself, more
geared towards pratical applications willing to set up an interest
group, sort of a "subset" of wavelet magazine readers, with a bias
toward practical telecomm applications. Those of you willing to share
experiences and "know-how" will be wellcome.
