#29 Question: Wavelet transforms for surfaces from vegatation.

I am doing research on quantitative analysis of complex surfaces, i.e.
vegetation: single tree and canopy surfaces of very different types of
forests. 3-D data of forest canopies have already been collected and
analyzed with "common" mathematical and statistical
procedures. Recently I heard about wavelet transformation. Is there
existing experience with or ave there been experiments on the
usefulness of applying wavelet transformation to similarly complex
macro-surfaces and structures? Experience on micro-surfaces and
micro-structures might be helpful as well.
