#26 Question: Definition of a wavelet

Dear wavelet experts,

I would like to know if there is any broadly accepted definition for a
WAVELET. Is it really necessary that

f(x) = SUM g(k)f(2x - k)
k

holds true? What are the minimum requirements to use the name
"wavelet"? Do you have some literature references with definitions of
wavelets?

I would like to say thank you very much in advance.

Yours
