#17 Job: Opening for PhD student in Communication (Switzerland)

- Theoretical and algorithmic aspects of wavelets including
multidimensional wavelets, multiwavelets and second generation
wavelets.
- Applications of wavelets to multimedia: advanced analysis
and compression techniques for audio, still pictures, video
coding, and computer graphics.
- Applications to communications: joint source-channel coding
for wireless and packet transmission, layered coding for image
and graphics.

PhD students are expected to take graduate courses in Communication
Systems and participate in state of the art research
projects. Outstanding research facilities are available. Candidates
are expected to have a master degree (M.S., D.E.A., Diploma) in
Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied mathematics or
Physics. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology is interested in
having a high quota of women in research and teaching. Qualified
female scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications
of handicapped candidate with equal qualification will be given
preference.

Working language is English.
Expected starting date would be January 1st 1997.
