#8 Job: Postdoctoral position in Image Processing at NIH

Staff Fellow (Postdoctoral) Position in the Image Processing And
Mathematics Group

This is a one year position in the $32,000 to $35,000 salary range,
and it is renewable by mutual agreement. The applicant must be a US
citizen or a permanent resident of the US, and have a Ph.D. or the
equivalent. The position is within the National Center for Research
Resources (NCRR), Biomedical Engineering and Instrumentation Program
(BEIP), Image Processing Group. The BEIP is a major program of NCRR
and is responsible for contributing to the advancement of NIH research
in the application of engineering, mathematics, and the physical
sciences to the solution of problems in the fields of biology and
medicine.

The Image Processing Group assists intramural scientists in solving
specific image processing problems. The team is composed of
researchers in image processing and mathematics; they provide support
on advanced methods, and develop new image processing and mathematical
tools and algorithms that are not otherwise available.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the image processing group of
BEIP on intramural research collaborations. Projects include the
development of new methods to solve image/signal processing problems,
and other mathematical problems related to combinatorics and
operational research. The images/signals are often acquired from MRI,
electron microscopes, and other imaging devices. The data can be 3-
dimensional images or even time-sequences of volumic images. Some of
the mathematical problems are related to new methods in DNA sequencing
and recognition which require some knowledge in combinatorics and
operational research.

The postdoctoral fellow must have a good background in mathematics,
image processing and computer science, and must also have a very good
knowledge in C programming to implement the algorithms for use by
other researchers at NIH and elsewhere. He or she must also have some
knowledge of, or interest in, learning about image and signal
processing of biomedical images, and solving problems in mathematical
biology.

Send resume, references and sample papers before September 15, 1996,
to Akram Aldroubi, BEIP/NIH, Building 13/3N17, MSC 5766, Bethesda, MD
20892-5766.
