Question: Wavelet Analysis in Non-stationary Signals

Hello,
I'm a relative beginner with wavelets. I've been playing with
wavelets and their relatives (wavelet packets, DWT, CWT) for about a
half a year and I have some difficulties.

Ultimately, I would like to analyze data (laser) so that I can
get non-biased information concerning the frequencies that exist
within the signal and their temporal envelope. Nothing overall
special, but I've have little success with my analysis so far. Is
there anyone out there who does this type of thing and could provide
references or help in the matter. Thanks
