DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS


Applications are invited for appointments as Research Assistants
and Research Fellows in the Department of Mathematics, to assist in
research projects in ``Wavelets".


Candidates for the appointments of Research Assistants should
possess a good Honours degree in Science or Engineering with a strong
background in Mathematics and Computing. Knowledge in signal
processing will be an advantage.


Candidates for the appointments of Research Fellow should possess
a PhD degree in Science or Engineering with a strong background in
Mathematics. Research experience in wavelets or related areas is
essential.


The appointments will normally be for a period of one year in the
first instance with the possibility of extension. Most projects will
last for 3 to 5 years.

Research Assistants may apply to register as
higher degree candidates in the National University of Singapore. If
the appointee is still a higher degree candidate on the expiry of the
project, he will be considered for a Research Scholarship, the award
of which will be subject to the satisfactory progress of his
candidature for the degree.


Gross monthly emoluments for Research Assistants appointments will range
from S$2300 to S$3800, while that for Research Fellows will range from
S$3170 to S$6040 (US$1 = S$1.41 approximately); the amount offered will
depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Incremental
credits will be granted to those who have completed full time National
Service. Leave and medical benefits will be provided.
