Question: Wavelet compression

Hi, I'm trying to use wavelets for lossless compression and I am not
getting the high compression ratios claimed in several papers that
I've gone through. Are those compression ratios just for lossy
compression schemes? I've seen the CREW recomendations for a new
standard for lossy/lossless still image compression. Isn't there a
way of designing wavelets that map from the integer domain to the
integer domain itself with sufficient regularity for compression
purposes? ( Apart from the floor function used in the reversible
transforms in CREW).

I would like to hear from people who have been researching related
areas and would appreciate it very much if they could share their
results/difficulties with me. Any pointers and suggestions are
welcome.
