Meeting: Wavelets down under II

WAVELETS DOWN UNDER II

A hands-on workshop

30 January -- 3 February, 1995

University of Melbourne
Parkville, Victoria
Australia

Wavelets Down Under II has been jointly developed and is jointly
presented by the Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) for Robust and
Adaptive Systems (CR)2ASys, and the Centre for Sensor Signal and
Information Processing (CSSIP), Prometheus Inc, USA, and the
University of Melbourne.

The workshop
------------

"Wavelets Down Under II" follows the highly successful workshop
"Wavelets Down Under I", held in Adelaide in January 1993, and is once
again presented by world-renowned experts in the field. In this
intensive five day workshop, there will be a "hands-on" emphasis,
providing opportunities to solve real-world signal processing problems
using a variety of software tools.

The workshop aims to:

* provide a basic introduction to wavelet functions;

* examine the use of wavelets in various applications of signal
processing;

* review currently available software; and

* use real-world data to gain familiarity with the properties and
applications of wavelets

Who should attend?
------------------

This workshop will be of interest to engineers, scientists and
academics involved in signal and image processing, including
compression, recognition and classification.

Some knowledge of the basic tools of signal processing such as Fourier
transforms and series will be useful. Calculus and linear algebra,
including familiarity with matrices, is recommended. No preliminary
knowledge of wavelets is assumed.

Program
-------

* Monday 30 January, 1995: Professor Wim Sweldens

Lecture: "Introduction to wavelet transforms"
Hands-on: "Wavelet function/transforms using MATLAB"

* Tuesday 31 January, 1995: Dr Jerry Kautsky
