Summary: Job available at CSIRO Exploration & Mining, Australia

CSIRO Exploration & Mining aims to achieve advances in the understanding of how and where giant world-class ore deposits are formed. We are developing new software to aid exploration geoscientists in the search for valuable mineral deposits through the simulation of a wide range of relevant earth processes. This software will combine geoscientific databases, process modelling packages and visualisation into one coherent web-based computational environment, allowing the user seamless access to data, models and a combination of computational platforms. The Cooperative Research Centre in Predictive Mineral Discovery (pmd*CRC) is supporting this work through research projects as well as industry supported studies.

We are searching for the best people to work with us to fulfil this goal. You will need an advanced understanding of chemistry and physics; the required mathematical skills for algorithm development for non-linear processes; a capacity to efficiently develop mathematical descriptions for scientifically credible simulations of the selected earth processes; strong computing skills - and a passionate interest in your work.

We urgently need someone to develop and use geochemical software for the simulation of reactive transport processes in a wide variety of hydrothermal ore environments.

We are also looking for mathematically-oriented geoscientists and/or geologically-oriented physical scientists who wish to explore the fundamental geological processes that lead to the formation of the world's most important ore bodies; and to model these processes quantitatively.

The positions will be based in Perth in the state of the art Australian Resources Research Centre at Bentley, Perth, Western Australia.
