New genome sequencing methods depict increasingly higher processing speeds and decreasing associated costs that jointly give rise to an exponential growth of the amount of produced sequencing data. In parallel, the associated storage costs one preferably wants to store all captured genome data over longer periods in support of longitudinal studies are becoming the real bottleneck. A completely sequenced human genome roughly represents about 3 GB of data. Storage constraints will require 200 to 2000-fold compression rates. This PhD mandate will focus on the design of new compression methodologies and alternative genome signal representations, utilizing among other sparse and scalable representations, to meet these requirements. more information can be found at: http://www.ibbt.be/modulefiles/jobs/99-039935a1.pdf
